I'm sure you are feeling the changes in the air: the hot breeze, longer days, the humidity... Summer is here! I personally love the summer but it does affect my workout routine and I'd like to share with you some tips that help me stay active but also smart with my workouts!
Here are 5 tips to help you workout wisely during the summer:
1.Get an early start - Try to avoid outdoor workouts at the hottest time of the day and start your workout before 10am or in the early evening, when the sun is not that hot.
2. Wear sunscreen- "If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it." Remember that song? Listen to it from here. This is not a cliche. Although we need vitamin D and sunscreen blocks the absorbance of vitamin D, it is important to wear sunscreen twice a day when staying outside, even in the winter! So much more in the Summer!
3. Hydrate yourself - As soon as you wake up, drink a full glass of water. Make sure to drink enough water during the day (1.5-2 liters a day). Take a bottle of water with you wherever you go. Add some fruit to it, like lemon or apple, to give it some flavor. Use a Daily Water Tracker Reminder to remind you to drink throughout the day.
4. Change your nutrition - In the summer it is recommended to eat lighter food that digests quickly. There are wonderful seasonal fruits and quality veggies to enjoy from. Using a base of whole grains and adding plenty of vegetables boosts the nutritional value of your meals.
5. Dress up for the weather - long tight leggings - OUT, loose comfortable shorts - IN! If you are concerned with sun radiation, then wear long sleeve shirts but keep them loose and anti sweat shirts and shorts. Let your body breathe by wearing natural fibers like cotton that can help you stay cool and comfortable. Consider clothes with built-in sun protection.
Hopefully you've got some useful tricks and tips to help you keep motivated all through the summer. Don't let your hard work go down the drain because of change of weather! Seize the opportunity of the warm weather to try new workouts (swimming maybe), eat healthier and be more active! Stay safe and active!
